SSJD Group

SSJD Group (owners of Al-Abbas and HUM TV networks) is focused on providing energy to Pakistan and helping the country come out of the power crisis. Key motivation of SSJD is to generate power from indigenous fuel and renewable resources, and remove dependency on foreign fuel resources.

The management team has over 40 years of experience in power sector and has worked on over 1800MW of power plants in Pakistan and over 5000MW worldwide. The SSJD group company Al-Abbas Sugar Mills Ltd. has recently commissioned Pakistan’s first private coal-fired power plant of 15 MW to KESC.

Our target is to provide 1000MW of energy by the year 2017. This year we have been successful in supplying industry’s first private coal-based power plant of 15MW to KESC – a modest start towards our target of 1000MW. In the coming years we plan to build multiple small green power plants from biomass and other renewable resources, and large indigenous fossil fuel power plants.

SSJD currently owns a 30-year mining lease of 100 sq km of coal field in Badin, Sindh. Based on three years of detailed survey and verification from international consultants the Group is fortunate to have identified 250 million ton of confirmed coal reserves, capable of supporting 600MW of power plant, of which we are targeting a 300 MW power plant by 2014 and another 300 MW by 2017. On the basis of this phenomenal find, government of Sindh has approached us for a joint venture on a 40-60% ratio to develop this resource on fast track, making us one of the pioneering companies to have entered into such a partnership.
