Pakistan Green Building is in phase of developing Pakistan specific Green Guidelines to address the issues caused by conventional building techniques. Pakistan Green Building Council will launch Pakistan Green Building Guidelines -V1, on 27 Oct 2016.
The construction and the transportation industry are the major causes of environmental pollution in Pakistan. The concepts of sustainability and green construction have started to gain importance in the country, and very important efforts have taken place. However, these efforts are still individual efforts that by themselves cannot really impact the global market in a positive way. There is lack of coordination between the different individuals and organizations that are working on this endeavor, there is inconsistency in legislation and regulations, there is an enormous fragmentation between the different stakeholders that often play adversaries roles, there is not a reference framework regarding sustainability, there are not systems to assess the sustainability of the projects or build environment, there is a gap in knowledge and understanding regarding sustainable development and specially sustainable construction, there is no documentation of sustainable projects or of the technologies and techniques developed in the country.
